Greg at Rufus Woods 10/24-10/25

Fishing was very slow at Rufus Woods Thursday and Friday between the launch at Seaton's Grove and the upper net pens. I managed 5 walleyes in two days of fishing. Dragging 3/8oz jigs in 18-24 feet near the Island 2 miles below the boat ramp produced 4 fish in the 18-19 inch range. The largest walleye (21 inches) was caught with a bottom bouncer and lime green spinner at a depth of 35 feet on Nespelem Bar (near the upper net pens). Blade baits and crank baits produced nothing.

The trout fishing was very good at Rufus. I caught several pulling spinners and night crawlers. I kept a couple that were hooked deep, and released the rest prior to reaching the net. Local shore fishermen were enjoying good trout action at the Seaton's Grove boat launch.

I fished Rufus 4 times in Sep and Oct. It seems like the number of walleyes is down compared to the last couple of years. However, the fish this year were larger than in 2011 or 2012.

October sunshine on Rufus Woods, a fat walleye, and a cold beer. Life is good!!!
