Greg on the Pend O'Reille River near Sandpoint 7/21

Our family spent the weekend at a cabin on the Pend O'Reille River a couple of miles west of Sandpoint. Most of our time was spent pulling tubes and skiing with the kids. However, I did sneak out early Monday morning for a couple of hours to see if I could find a few of the Pend O'Reille walleyes that have emerged the last few years. I have no fished this portion of the Pend O'Reille system so wasn't sure where to start. Between 6 AM and 8 AM, we pulled spinners along the channel edge adjacent to a large weed bed. Two of us caught 10 small perch, a handful of smallmouth, and a northern pike minnow. No walleyes, but with the abundance of perch and small bass, I can see that there is a good forage base available for them.
