Greg and Don at Rufus Woods 9-3

Don B. and I made a day trip to Rufus Woods on Tuesday. We took our time getting to Seaton's Grove Launch since the Aug/early Sep bite is usually a late day flurry of activity. The late afternoon/early evening bite held true. Through 4PM, the only fish we put in the boat was Don's northern pike minnow. The action picked up nicely as the flows increased and the sun got lower in the sky. Don and I picked up one fish per drift in the vicinity of the Island (2 miles below the launch). We concentrated our efforts around 40 feet of water pulling bottom bouncers and spinners/crawlers. Fire tiger (perch) patterns produced the best. We ended up catching 8 walleyes (one released) and 1 nice brown trout. Fish ranged from 16-23 inches.

If this year is like the last few years, walleye fishing should continue to get better through early October.
