Paul and Lynn: Potholes/Moses Lake - 4/6-11
Great Spring Adventure April 6-11
Lynn and I headed for Moses Lk on Sunday to try Moses for the first time. The Connally boat launch was closed and we missed the one at Cascade on our way back so headed for the Potholes reservoir.
Talked to a local when we arrived at the east end boat launch. He had done quite well on walleyes and said the population of "eyes" had exploded the last two years and they were fishing year round during open water.
We put in about 3:30 and caught three decent fish just west of the boat launch. We were wind drifting along the rip-rap as there was a good breeze making this effective. Until I turned the Minn-Kota too quickly and wrapped my line around the prop. Went in and spent an hour straightening out the mess.
Monday we fished up Lind coulee and around the mouth of the coulee. Not much happening but Lynn managed to scratch out two decent "eyes" and we caught a couple perch and some throwbacks.
Moved to Mar-Don for Tuesday. Explored more of Lind coulee and picked up four walleye and a couple perch. Trolled Shadraps behind Goose Island. On our way back and Lynn caught a 14 inch smallmouth.
Wednesday was brisk and choppy so we waited until the afternoon when the wind laid down and headed across to Medicare beach. There we both caught limits in about two hours. We tolled silver blade smiley with plum colored beads and trolled from .9 to 1.2 mph in 30- 42 feet depth. Fish went deeper as time went by. All our fish were 14.5 to 17 inches, most on the high end.
Moved to Moses on Thurs. since that was our original intent. Put in at the Blue Heron boat launch and followed some locals that told us to fish down towards Gailly Island. We caught our sixteen fish but threw back more than we kept. Was hard to catch a 15 incher and many were barely legal. Will go back to Moses as we trust Tim that the fish do get bigger. Had a great five days fishing and a wonderful way to start the fishing season for us. Oh! Yellow red tiger smiley with chartreuse faceted beads and white glow bead in the middle. Looked like a perch.
