Greg and Allan: Potholes - 2/15
The weather was perfect to get out of the house and enjoy a day on the water! That is what Allan and I thought...along with the rest of central Washington. At one point Sunday morning, Allan counted 70 boats fishing "The Dunes". Very few boats seemed to be catching fish. We didn't have much interest in playing bumper boats, so we moved around the lake quite a bit. We ended up catching approximately 20 sub-legal walleye between 8 and 11 inches and a few perch. We took home one 16 inch walleye and a pair of 11 inch perch.
More info for Club Members: Reports in early Feb and late Jan suggested the bite at Potholes was hot in 30-50 feet of water. We started the day on the Dunes slow trolling bottom bouncers and smile blades in 25-35 feet in an attempt to find active fish. We picked up our 16 inch walleye and a perch before 10 AM. As the concentration of boats increased at "The Dunes", we moved to the east shoreline and trolled 35 to 50 feet a couple of light bites. We ended the day trolling Medicare Beach within a mile or two of Lind Coulee. The small walleye were schooled in 40-45 feet. We caught most of our fish trolling smile blades between 0.5-0.8mph. Allan picked up a few on a bronze/orange blade bait.
It was fun to see the large schools of perch and walleye on my fish finder. I have only had the Humminbird for a year. I have never seen the screen so loaded with beautiful fish arches.
