Greg and Gordon: Roosevelt - 3/11
We fished from 830 AM to 530 PM and caught 11 walleyes. Most fish were 17 or 18 inches. Smallest fish was 15 inches, the biggest fish was 20 inches. None of the fish were female...at least they didn't have eggs. Fishing was slow, but steady. We hit three different areas in the main lake. It seems that fish are still a bit scattered. The water temperature was 40 degrees.
More info for Club Members: My father-in-law (Gordon) from Illinois is in town for a week. We met up with Jim K, his dad, and Lyle P. We launched out of Fort Spokane. It was the maiden voyage for Jim's new Skeeter boat. It is a beautiful machine and geared up nicely for fishing and family fun. We met up with Jim for a "shore lunch" of grilled walleye and potatoes. Darn tasty on a raw day.
Gordon and I started on Lincoln Beach in 30 to 50 feet of water. With cloudy skies, I thought that the fish may be shallower than they were a couple days prior. We picked up one 18" fish in 50 feet, but marked many in 40 to 45 feet. We moved to the flats across from Seven Bays and had steady success slow trolling smile blades behind 2 ounce bouncers in 55 to 65 feet of water. Lure color didn't matter. All of the fish we caught had nice color making me think that they have been in shallower water recently. Fish caught that deep are often ghostly white. When I cleaned the fish last night, the male fish seemed a few weeks away from spawning...not ripe yet.
