Jim K: Roosevelt - 8/7
I spent the day with a friend of mine on Lake Roosevelt. We launched out of Kettle Falls. Ended up catching 17 walleye bottom bouncing on main lake humps.
For SWC members:
Given the dark conditions we initially attempted pitching cranks & rippin’ raps along points by drops with nearby weedbeds & near main channel bends. After a half hour without success we abandoned this effort and started to bottom bounce in same areas & outside edges of weed beds. After another 45 minutes without success we started scanning main lake humps. Top of first hump was loaded with nice arches in 30 FOW hugging the bottom & we quickly began hooking up on bottom bouncers. Both blue bead w/ silver smile blades and chartreuse beads with orange smile blades produced. After this hump started to slow down we repeated the pattern on a hump about a mile away. This time fish were at 35’ behind a hump topping out at 28’. On this hump our chart/orange color combination out fished other colors. On both humps fish were very concentrated in a small area. Once we had that spot on the spot figured out, most passes resulted in a hookup. Despite this happening we never had a double on all day. We ended the day with 17 walleyes. Biggest six ranged between 20 and 23”.
