Club Fish Day: Porcupine Bay - 6/4

Hot weather arrived for our fish day at Porcupine Bay. It was over 90 degrees Saturday. There were at least 6 club boats that attended.

My brother and I picked the kids up from school Friday evening and set up camp. We fished from 5 pm to 630 pm and got 8 nice walleyes in the 15 to 19 inch range. They were delicious on the cast iron skillet for dinner that night. We met club members the next morning at 8 am the boat launch. We led them to the same area as we fished the prior evening. Fishing continued to be very good on Saturday. Grant (7 yrs) and Lindsay (5 yrs) enjoyed reeling fish into the boat with their new rod/reel combos from Kids Fishing last month. We ran out of crawlers around 11 am with 13 walleyes and 1 trout in the live well with several small fish released.

More info for club members: We found the most productive fishing to be 2-3 miles above Buoy 5 where the river narrows. The fish seemed to relate to the rocky bottom and "faster" current. Pulling sliver Colorado spinners on a double hook worm harness was the most productive presentation with a trolling speed of 1.7 to 2.0 mph. Allan got a 16 fish limit of walleyes between 15 and 19 inches. Patrick S and family fished in the afternoon and put 9 fish in the live well. Paul L and Bruce W and Wayne J (new member) also fished the 2 mile stretch of river with success.
