Greg: Rufus Woods - 9/12
Since I didn't get to the Camp Out until noon on Sunday, I stayed through Tuesday. I went back to Rufus Woods to attempt to duplicate the success we had the previous evening. I caught 2 walleyes (22 and 20 inches) and 6 trout. I had to be home by 5 PM, so I was off the water by 2 PM. It would have been nice to stay longer to see if the evening bite would have materialized again.
More info for club members: The two walleyes came 2 minutes apart around 11 AM. The second walleye took my crawler on the drop. When I clicked the spool on my baitcaster, the fish was already there. These fish were caught trolling bouncers in a spot that produced the evening before in 32 feet of water. I also tried trolling deep diving crankbaits against the current. I was able to use my big motor to troll upstream in a couple of slackwater areas. A fire tiger Flicker Minnow caught a couple of big triploids, but no walleyes. In the end, I had to give up trolling cranks. The current was 2.5 to 3.5 miles per hour. I couldn't make any upstream progress against that kind of current while maintaining good action with the cranks. They are made to run true up to about 3 mph before they wildly swing side to side.
