Club Fish Day: Snake River - 10/6
Fishing was tough. A powerful cold front several days before our arrival produced a dust storm followed by several days of much below normal temperatures. Between members of our club and other local fishermen in camp, most boats averaged 0 to 2 walleyes per day. Fishing was better for other species with several boats catching the occasional catfish, a few nice sized perch, and lots of small bass. Even though walleyes were tough to find, several large ones were caught including ones measuring 31 inches, 29 inches, and 26 inches. All big walleyes were released.
More Info for club members: SWC had 6 boats over the weekend at the Snake River. Doug N, Greg K, Tom and Dianne F, Lyle and Eve P, and Stan J (left early health reasons). Nearly all of the walleyes that were caught seemed to be in the 20 to 30 ft range. Lyle only caught 2 walleyes the entire weekend, but they measured 31 inches and 29 inches respectively. Both of these Snake River giants were caught (and released) trolling a Walleye Runner deep diving crank bait. Greg caught 9 walleyes over the course of 3 1/2 days including a 26 incher, a 22 incher, a 20.5 incher, several 18 inchers, and a couple little ones. Half of his walleyes were caught on bouncers trolling Smile Blades. The other half were caught trolling a gold/purple number 11 Flicker Minnow. Smile Blade colors that were most productive were silver when it was sunny and lime green when it was cloudy.
