Greg K and Steven: Roosevelt - 9/7
I had to work the weekend of our Fall Campout at Ft Spokane, but was able to fish one day and meet up with the group. I brought my coworker Steven out for a day of fishing. He hasn’t fished much but turned out to be quite good at it. Even though fishing was slow (terrible at times), he caught more fish than I did. By the end of the day, we caught 12 walleyes (several too small to keep), a trout, and had a big smallmouth to the boat before it broke our line. The rest of the Walleye Club also experienced slow fishing with most boats only picking up a few fish.
More info for members: We experienced 6 hours of terrible fishing followed by an hour and a half of very good fishing. We started around 10 am fishing in and around The Narrows. We cast crankbaits into shallow weedy/rocky areas with nothing but a big smallmouth that snapped Steven’s line. We tried trolling bouncers and crawlers in the Narrows from depths between 25 and 65 feet without a bite for over an hour. Then we moved up to the Buoy 7 area where we fished for a couple hours with only 1 walleye and a couple of unimpressive bites. We fished the Weeping Wall and got a trout. At 4 PM, we rolled up on Blue Creek and had consistent walleye action in 45 to 55 feet until we quit about 6 PM. A few walleyes were only 10 to 12 inches long, but we did manage to land a half dozen 15-17 inch fish, an 18 incher, and a fat one measuring almost 22 inches. All walleyes were caught on a silver smile blade with minimal beads. Green didn’t work. Gold didn’t work, either.
