We found fishing to be tough in the Spokane Arm. It was really hard to find any keepers. We ended the day catching about 25 walleyes but only kept 7. The largest fish was a 16 inch male. Many of the walleyes that we caught were only 11 or 12 inches.
More info for members: We launched out of Ft Spokane around 830 AM. The water clarity was a couple of feet at the launch. As we motored up the Arm, the water got increasingly muddy. The worst seemed to be around Porcupine Bay. We stopped to fish Blue Creek where the visibility was less than a foot. No bites at Blue Creek. We fished a couple of slack water areas in the Narrows and caught one small walleye. We caught a couple walleye around Buoy 1, but they were small. We decided to try Buoy 5 and The Steps (not much there). After lunch we returned to Buoy 1 and found a school of walleye eager to bite in 25 to 30 feet of water. Even though the fish were small, we worked the school for three and a half hours and managed to get a few keepers. Lime green and chartreuse Smile Blade rigs with a double hook harness worked the best. Fish would not take a blade bait. The combination of wind and current would have made jig fishing tricky, so we didn’t try it. Water temp was only 43 degrees. Water clarity above Porcupine Bay was about 2 feet.
