Greg and Patrick: Lake Pend Oreille - 5/27

It was our first time trying to catch walleyes at Lake Pend Oreille. We failed. We fished from 930 AM to 6 PM and managed to catch 4 pike minnows, 1 small northern pike, 1 perch, and a couple smallmouth bass.

More info for club members: We launched along the highway a few miles north of Hope. It was a very nice facility with a good ramp and long docks. We motored about 5 miles to the mouth of the Clark Fork. There were about 8 boats there pulling spinners along the abrupt edge from 16 feet of water to 50+ feet. Nobody was catching fish. By noon, all of the boats were gone. According to one of the boats we talked to, this area was productive a few days prior. We pulled crankbaits, trolled bouncers, and tried blade baits. Only caught pike minnows. In the afternoon we fished various bays and points along the north shore from the mouth of the Pack River to Sandpoint. We caught a perch, a pike minnow, and a northern pike…all on crankbaits.
