Greg: Snake River - 9/12
Now that the kids are in school, I should have the opportunity to fish on my days off during the week. Fresh off a set of night shifts, I didn’t get a very early start. I was on the water around 1030 am and fished until dark. It was the warmest day of the week with afternoon temps in the low 80s with no wind and bright sun. Even the bass were not biting aggressively. I ended the day catching 4 walleyes, 2 catfish (3 pounders), a bunch of small perch, and a dozen smallmouth bass.
Trolling crankbaits wasn’t particularly productive. I focused on depths of 20 to 26 feet with Flicker Minnows, Walleye Runners, and deep diving Bandits. The only 2 walleyes I caught on crankbaits were pretty small…13 to 15 inches. They took Bandits. I burned through two dozen night crawlers catching bass, perch, catfish and a couple decent walleyes (17 and 19 inches). The walleyes were relating to steep breaks near the mouth of the Tucanon River. I also set the hook on a very large fish that pulled drag like a walleye (or catfish) near the mouth of the Tucanon. It broke my heart when it pulled free. A chartreuse smile blade rig was the most productive behind a 2.5 ounce bouncer.
