Greg and the boys: Roosevelt - 7/10/2020
My son is not big on fishing. I can get him to go on one or two short trips per year if we find one of his buddies to go. So we found a friend, and headed to Roosevelt. We spent about 4 hours at Porcupine Bay on a beautiful 80 degree day. We caught 5 walleyes in 4 hours. Neither boy fishes much, so there were lots of missed bites and a couple fish got off at the boat. But it was a good day for dad to see his son have fun at the lake. The fish that made it to the net were 14, 16, 17, 17, and 20.5 inches.
More info for club members: We launched out of Porcupine Bay around 1030 AM and made the run up above Buoy 7. Within the first 10 minutes, we had 2 walleyes in the boat. It looked like it was going to be a 20 fish day. The bite slowed, but we managed to get another 3 nice fish in the live well within the first 2 hours. All 5 of our fish were caught near the bright blue house a mile upstream of Buoy 7 in the narrow channel. Our bites came in 25 to 30 feet trolling bouncers and crawlers. We tried a bunch of colors, but none seemed to be preferred over another.
We made a couple quick stops at the weedbeds and humps near Buoy 7 with no bites. We tried the lower section of the Narrows with no luck. We ended the day at the landslide just below Blue Creek. We got several bites in the mudline, and lost a good one at the net.
