Greg and Jeff: Snake River - 8/25/2022

I wanted to give my brother from Kansas the opportunity to catch a trophy walleye, so we made the trip to the Snake River. We arrived around 130 pm and fished until dark. We ended up catching 10 walleyes ranging from 10 inches to 24 inches. Five of the walleyes were caught on deep diving crankbaits while the other five were caught on blade baits. Gold or copper (flashy baits) produced best when the sun was bright. Once the sun went below the bluffs, greens and blacks became more productive. Jeff thought he had his trophy walleye when his blade bait was hit violently followed by 4 minutes of strong head shakes. It turned out to be a 7 lb catfish. He hurled insults at the fish while he untagled it from the net. In turn, the catfish bit his thumb until he bled. My brother has caught hundreds of catfish in Kansas, but his first Washington catfish was the meanest one he has ever encountered.

Greg caught several walleyes on blade baits including this 20 incher.
