Jack and Dianne: Roosevelt - 6/19-23
Following our club Fishout, Jack and Dianne, Gary and Nora went down to Gifford for a few days.
Rain and wind followed us so that fishing time was limited to windows of opportunity.
Our first opportunity came on Mon evening. We fished from 6 until near dark and boated 8 keepers, and an abundance of 'dinks'. Most fish came on Chartreuse lures. We worked the shelf between 20 and 60 ft.
Most fish were hanging around the 38 ft mark, but a couple fish jumped on Jack's lure as we were reeling up in anticipation of turning around to make another pass over an area Gary marked fish on the sonar.
That first night we boated 8 nice sized fish and one dink that was bleeding badly after being hooked in the gills.
The next evening we worked the same area and boated 18 nice size fish. We must have tossed back at least 2X that many dinks. Again, Chartreuse was the color of the evening.
Gary and Nora left Wed. Jack did not fish as his back and shoulders hurt so much from reeling in the numbers of fish we hooked and either kept or tossed back the previous 2 evenings. Besides, by then Jack had used up the 3 doz. worms he had brought with him.
Our collective prior experiences at Gifford suggested we would have only mild success. However, this time it was probably the most productive 2 evenings the four of us had experienced since joining the club.
I should add that considering all the dinks we caught at Gifford the average size fish overall was smaller than the overall average size caught by the group as a whole at Kettle.
Minimal mosquitos, even after the rain quit and the wind died down. Compared to Locust Grove, a paradise!
