Greg and kids: Roosevelt - 8/11/2022
We made a quick camping trip to Roosevelt for the Persied meteor shower. It was hot (mid 90s) when we arrived at the lake. After setting up camp and swimming for a while, we concentrated on catching supper. Catching fish was important, because we didn’t pack any food as a back up plan. I thought it would take less than an hour to get 3 or 4 walleyes for dinner, but it was nearly 7 PM before we put a couple walleyes in the live well. My son got a 19 incher and my daughter quickly got a 14 incher to provide enough for a fish fry. We also released a 10 inch walleye, and my son lost a large rainbow trout. As for viewing the Persieds, we were treated to mainly clear skies. The kids saw several meteors (and lots of bats darting above us) as we floated in the boat under the stars. The bright full moon and distant lightning were less than optimal for viewing, but we still enjoyed trying. The kids agreed that walleye cooked at camp taste better than they do at home!
