Greg, Don and Sharon: Porcupine Bay - 10/14

Don and Sharon B met me for a day on the Spokane Arm of Lake Roosevelt. We started fishing about 1030 AM and called it a day around 5 PM. We put 22 small walleye in the live well. Most fish were in the 12 to 14 inch range. The fishing was consistent the entire day with a fish here and there. The sky was cloudy and the air was chilly. It rained on our drive home, but we only experienced a few sprinkles while we were on the lake.

More info: We made the run up passed Buoy 5 to the Buoy 7 area. Prior to lunch, we trolled the narrow channel about 2 miles above Buoy 7. Don put a fish in the boat before I even got a line in the water, and managed to catch 3 walleyes before I got a bite. We made three passes from the irrigation pivot to the bend in the river and caught 12 walleyes before lunch. We pulled spinners behind 2 ounce bottom bouncers. Most of our bites came in the deepest part of the channel which is between 30 and 35 feet.

After lunch, we moved downstream a mile or two near the gravel slide close to Buoy 7. Once again we pulled spinners in the deepest water we could find in the meandering channel (40-50 feet). The walleyes in this area seemed to be a bit bigger (13-14 inchers). Don got the biggest fish of the day which was just shy of 17 inches. We payed a visit to the Weeping Wall, but only managed to catch snags there. Boats trolling trout gear were catching rainbows consistently at the Weeping Wall.

Copper blades with red beads produced the most consistent action throughout the day. Orange blades worked well, too. Silver, perch and green colors performed poorly.
