Greg K: Rufus Woods - 4/2

It was my first day on the water this year. I enjoyed playing with my new Humminbird with down and side imaging. It is a cool toy, but it did not help me catch any walleye...at least not today. It was actually the first time that I have been skunked (for walleye) at Rufus. I tried jigs and smile blades behind bottom bouncers on various humps, current seems and back eddies at depths ranging from 10 feet to 40 feet. I fished from Seaton's Grove to Nespelem Bar. I caught 7 trout, but no walleye. I had a solid hook-up near the end of the day that gave "the walleye head shake". The fish stayed down like a heavy walleye, but it came unhooked before I got it to the boat.

Several locals were fishing the same spots I was hitting with no luck either. Above and below Bagley Island, the slack water just below Seaton's Grove launch, and the series of small points across the river from the boat launch.
