Larry, Brian and Greg: Porcupine Bay - 8/10

Brian and I hitched a ride on Larry's boat Sunday afternoon and evening. The temperature was hot (mid 90s) and so was the fishing. We fished from 1 PM to 7 PM. Between the three of us we kept 38 small walleyes...mostly in the 13 to 15 inch range. We probably released 10 really small fish. Brian got the big fish of the day at 21 inches. Larry got a 19 incher. The two bigger fish were certainly the exception, the remainder of our catch was 15 inches and under.

More information: We made a long run from Porcupine Bay to the narrow channel above Buoy 7. Fish came in spurts from mid afternoon through the evening. We had a couple of doubles and one triple. We drifted the middle of the channel in 28 to 40 feet. Most of our fish were taken pulling bottom bouncers and chrome spinners. A few fish were caught jigging using an orange jig head with a piece of crawler. Larry caught two large (6 inch) crawdads on his spinner rig. We are guessing that crawdads may be what the fish are eating in this channel. However, none of the fish had anything of note in their bellies. Perhaps the crawdads are eating the little walleyes instead???
