Allan and Greg: Banks Lake - 9/19
We spent the night at Osborn Bay on Banks Lake. Since Rufus Woods was so unkind, we decided to give Banks Lake a try on Friday. Our results weren't much better. Allan caught 3 walleye that were about 12 inches a piece. The highlight of the day was the first fish of the day, a 3.3 pound smallmouth.
More info: The bow mount trolling motor was dead, so we decided to try trolling crankbaits with the gas kicker. We targeted flats (15 to 30 feet of water) with nearby weed beds. According to fishing reports, trolling cranks this summer has been good on Banks Lake. It was unproductive for us. We tried the flats across from Coulee Playland, Barker Flats, and the Rose Bush area. We gave up on crank baits, and tied up bottom bouncers. We worked a deep hump west of Steamboat Rock. Allan picked up a couple short fish in 40 feet, and I missed several bites. Maintaining boat control with the kicker was tough in the wind, so we called it a day.
