Allan and Greg: Rufus Woods - 9/18

Fishing was poor at Rufus Woods on Thursday. Allan and I managed only 2 walleyes (1 keeper). We fished from 10 AM to 7 PM. We drifted with the current along many of the channel edges that produce good results this time of year. The two walleye that we did catch came about 11 AM. Looking back at the hourly flow data from Grand Coulee, there were two hours of peak flow last Thursday above 70 thousand cfs. Otherwise the average flow was 55 thousand cfs for the day which is poor. It was the lowest flow day of the last 10 days.

We were also handicapped by the loss of a trolling motor. Accurate boat and depth control makes a difference, but I thought we had some good drifts between Seaton's Grove and the Net Pens. For 2014, I have made 3 trips to Rufus and caught 2 walleye.

I got 3 trout ranging from 14 inches to 20 inches. Allan caught a sculpin. He caught a sculpin last time we went to Rufus. He will soon be the president of the Spokane Sculpin Club.
