Ken and Sharon L: Columbia River - 8/9-11

I talked with Ken on the phone. He and Sharon fished for 2 or 3 days on the Columbia River near Umatilla. Sounds like the walleye bite is steady, but not red hot. They averaged 14 or 15 fish per day. It sounded like fish were in the 16 to 19 inch range. He is looking to return to the Umatilla area as soon as the wind forecast allows. Sounds like there is almost no place to get out of the wind on that part of the Columbia.

More info for club members: It sounds like Ken is launching at Umatilla and fishing the deep channel below the launch. He continues to fish 2 to 2.5 ounce bottom bouncers and smile blades with a crawler. He thinks that he is catching more fish than most anglers in that area because he is fishing water as deep as 50 feet.
