Club Fish Day: Hunters - 8/8
The weather was good and we had a nice turn out for the Club Fish Day at Hunters. I think we had 8 or 9 boats. Boat 1: Bill F and Peter F. Boat 2: Paul L and Ron S. Boat 3: New members Bruce and Lavera W. Boat 4: New members Dana and Pamela T. Boat 5: New members David and Ruth O. Boat 6: John and Shirley C. Boat 7: Mark and Linda M. Boat 8: Greg K and Travis S. Great to have so many new members participate. Looking forward to fishing with you guys in the future!
Fishing was slow and steady at Hunters. Most of the fish that were caught were in the 12 to 16 inch range. Travis picked up a 22.5 inch walleye within the first 5 minutes of fishing. It was so exciting that Greg forgot about driving the boat and wound a half a reel of fishing line in the Minn Kota. Ugh. Despite the poor boat driving, Greg and Travis kept 11 walleye and 2 trout. Paul had a very good day with a 23.5" fish weighing 4 pounds. He and Ron also picked up a couple of 19 inchers. New members David and Ruth demonstrated the "Minnesota Backtroll" and had a dozen keepers by 430 pm.
Many of the fish were caught in 20 to 35 feet on the flats above Rogers Bar Campground. Other spots that produced a few fish were near the mouth of Wilmont Creek, Enterprise, and the hump across from Nayborly. Trolling spinners behind bottom bouncers seemed to be the most productive technique.
