Greg and Lyle: Roosevelt - 2/25

Lyle joined me for the first fishing trip of the season. We started our 2016 fishing year with a great day on Lake Roosevelt. We caught over 20 walleye between 9am and 430pm. Most fish were in the 13 to 17 inch range. The weather was beautiful with sunshine, temps in the low 50s, and just a bit of wind. We tried several spots throughout the day, and caught at least a few fish in almost every location. Water temperature was 39 degrees. The lake elevation 1267 feet and dropping nearly a foot per day.

More info for members: We launched at Fort Spokane and fished Casino Flats along side new member Kyle for a couple of hours. We picked up 4 fish before moving across the main lake. We fished a 200 yard stretch on the opposite side of the lake from the Deer Meadows community. In 3 hours, we caught 13 walleyes in 35 to 45 feet. Our next stop was the sand beach 3 miles above Lincoln. That only produced 1 walleye in 40 feet. We ended the day in the Nayborly area, and picked up 4 walleyes in 30 to 50 feet. As we ended our day, we saw fellow club members Doug N and Tom F at the boat launch, and they also had good fishing.

We caught all but one fish pulling a 2 ounce bottom bouncer with a smile blade and a small foam float. Many fish were caught on Slow Death Hooks and a few on a double hook warm harness. Chartreuse, purple, and pink produced most of our bites. Along side our bouncer rigs, we had a rod dedicated to dragging a jig, and it only caught 1 fish the entire day. Troll speed was 0.8 to 1.2 mph. Much of the time, I wanted to troll slower, but the wind pushed the boat around a bit on the main lake.
