Allan and Greg: Snake River - 3/5
I fished the Snake River from 4 PM to 6 PM on Friday evening before Allan arrived with his RV. I picked up one 18 inch walleye before dark and hooked up with another, but it shook off. On Saturday, we fished from 830 AM to 5 PM and caught 4 walleyes. The fish measured 20, 19, 17, and 14 inches. We missed a couple bites. In general the bites were subtle, and tough to get a good hook set. None of the fish that we cleaned had eggs.
More info for club members: We camped at Texas Rapids. Our best success was in the vicinity of the mouth of the Tucannon. The fish in that area were caught in 30 to 40 feet of water. A silver smile blade behind a 2 ounce bottom bouncer caught the majority of our fish. We tried green, purple, gold, and orange with very little success. We had several bites within a mile of Little Goose Dam trolling bouncers in the fast current, and that is where we got the 20 incher. All the other boats fishing walleye were stacked up near the mouth of the Palouse. We joined the group of boats for an hour, but saw nothing caught in this relatively small area. Water coming out of the Palouse was muddy and 46 degrees. The water on the main river (Snake) was 42 degrees.
