Greg K: Snake River - 9/27
I drove down to the Snake River on Monday night and set up camp. I had plans to fish Tuesday and Wednesday morning. The fishing was so slow, I decided to pack up and go home Tuesday evening. On Tuesday, I caught 3 walleyes (16 in, 19 in, 21 in), a dozen small bass, a bluegill, and 2 pike minnow. I talked with a few others at the campground, and most of them only had a walleye or two for their efforts.
More info for club members: I camped at Texas Rapids. I spent most of my time fishing from Little Goose Dam to just below the Texas Rapids Campground. I trolled deep diving crankbaits the majority of the day in 16 to 28 feet of water. The three walleyes I did catch were on a size 11 Berkley Flicker Minnow (gold/purple perch) in 18 to 20 feet. My Rapalas and Reef Runners caught bass and pike minnow, but got no walleye love. The few walleyes that I caught were in areas with boulders in current adjacent to the deeper channel. Flats and weed edges only held bass. I also tried trolling spinners and bottom bouncers in 28 to 50 feet along channel edges which produced bass. Blade baits on the channel edge and in the boulders also produced small bass, but no walleyes.
