Ken L and Greg K: Banks Lake - 8/22
We took Ken's rig to the south end of Banks Lake for a day trip. We arrived at the lake around 8 AM. We had a nice 5 to 10 mph wind in the morning. We started the day with a double in the first 15 minutes of fishing. Ken boated an 18 incher and I got a 22! In another 20 minutes, I put a 15 incher in the boat. We thought it was going to be a great day, but our bite really slowed. By 11 AM the wind went calm, and the fishing became very slow. We ended the day catching 8 walleyes, 12" (released), 15", 17", 17.5", 17.5", 18", 19", and 22". Water temperature was 71 degrees and air temp warmed to 93 degrees. We were off the water by 5 PM.
More Info for Club Members: We started the morning at 8 AM south of Goose Island and picked up 3 walleyes quickly in 20 feet of water trolling 2 ounce bottom bouncers with smile blades and double hook crawler harnesses. By 930 AM, we moved to the weed flats west and northwest of Goose Island and trolled size 7 Flicker Shads in 13 to 16 feet of water. I picked up 1 walleye and several small perch in 45 minutes. Ken got tired of cleaning weeds off his crankbait, and so we went back to trolling bouncers. We picked up a couple walleyes in 20 feet in some mud-stained water near Rose Bush between 11 AM and noon. Our final 3 walleyes were caught on the big mud flats between Million Dollar Mile and Goose Island in 25 feet of water. We missed a couple fish in this area. A very promising beginning of the day ended with a lackluster finish. Our catching was so spotty that it was hard to determine a preferred color.
