Greg and Mike: Roosevelt - 10/3

After an unsuccessful day of smallmouth bass fishing at the Pend Oreille River on Wednesday, Mike and I resumed our fishing vacation by going back to Roosevelt. We enjoyed a fantastic day on the lake. We caught another bunch of walleyes with several in the 15 to 18 inch range. Mike caught the landed the largest fish at 19 inches. In addition to the fantastic fishing, three bald eagles flew by frequently throughout the day. We heard a loon call…I love that sound! And best of all, after hearing a bull elk bugle periodically in the morning, Mike spotted the heard on a hillside. Using binoculars, we were able to watch the group of 10 to 15 elk for over an hour as they moved up and down the hill.

More info for club members: The bottom bouncer fishing was spotty at Blue Creek. The bass were biting fast and furious burning up our worm supply. (Go figure! We spent all day at the Pend Oreille River trying to catch bass the previous day, and now we couldn’t get away from them). We ultimately found a tightly clustered school of nice fish in 60 feet of water. The school was so tight, the we changed tactics and vertically jigged using blade baits. The rose gold baits that Travis helped me plate accounted for over a dozen keepers.

FYI, the water has been shut off for the season at Porcupine Bay. No flush toilets. No fish cleaning station.
