Greg K and Ken L: Roosevelt - 5/10

Ken and I had beautiful weather with sunshine, light winds, and temperatures in the 70s. We launched at 10am and fished until 530pm. We ended up keeping 17 walleyes in the 13 to 18 inch range and threw at least a dozen small walleyes back. We also caught a rainbow and a smallmouth bass. None of the walleyes that we kept had any eggs, and it looked like most of them were males or juvenile fish. The water temperature averaged 53 degrees.

More info for club members: We made the long run up the Spokane Arm past Marker 5 and beyond Buoy 7. We began fishing in the fast water in the channel above Buoy 7. We caught 8 or 9 walleyes in the 16 to 18 inch range as well as a rainbow and a bass. The fish were relating to current seems and back eddies in shallow water between 8 and 15 feet deep. We used bouncers and Smile Blades to minimize snags. Chrome worked the best as we cruised between 1.5 and 2.5 mph downstream. We tried a few spots between The Steps and Buoy 1 with no luck. We ended the day catching a few small fish in the upper Narrows in 35 feet and a couple dozen fish up to 15 inches at Blue Creek in 35 to 55 feet…all on bouncers and Smile Blades.
