Jim K: Roosevelt - 6/1
I fished Lake Roosevelt the early AM of June 1 for about four hours. I spent most of my time working weedbeds near current starting at the Narrows, and working downstream. back through Porcupine basin. I fished almost exclusively fished jerk baits, crank baits and swimsuits. I ended up catching one 19” walleye, and several nice size smallmouth bass. Most of the fishing boats I saw were heading upstream from where I was fishing.
For SWC Members: I fished hard in and around the narrows. Weeds were still thin, and about 3-4’ tall. Despite a bit shallower water levels, I could still fish a deep diving jerk bait through the weeds with minimum snagging. This is how I caught all of my fish. I used two different brands of deep jerkbaits with a natural green back / white belly pattern. From Greg’s report, and my observations there may be a better bite still going on further upstream for walleye. I did spend about a half hour motoring quickly off plane searching deeper 20-40’ breaklines, and dropping a jigging rap on fish I spotted on my sonar, but finding fish was few and far between. By 8:30AM I was headed back to the ramp.
