Greg K: Roosevelt - 5/26

Daddy-daughter evening at the lake. Lindsay and I left for Roosevelt after a day of telework and home school. We got the boat launched around 4 PM and fished until 730 PM. Fishing was slower than I expected, but we did find a few. We probably caught a dozen, but only 7 of them were worth keeping. A pair of 18 inchers provided a good photo opportunity at the end of the evening. Lake level 1264 and rising about a foot per day. Water temp 55. Water clarity good. Ten trailers were in the parking lot when we arrived.

More info for club members: It had been over 2 weeks since we fished Roosevelt, and the fish behavior had changed quite a bit, and the water level was up about 12 feet. With the late start, we were anxious to get a line wet so we stopped at Blue Creek first. Within 5 minutes, Lindsay pulled an 18 incher to the net. Another pair of keepers came quickly after that, and then the bite died. The Humminbird marked plenty of fish concentrated in a 50 yard stretch, but they didn’t want to bite our crawler rigs. We made the run up to Buoy 1 and made a couple of passes in the current/boulders, but only caught a couple small throw backs. By this time, it was 630 PM. We decided to return to Blue Creek and make the fish that we marked on the sonar bite. We changed colors and freshened up the crawlers and picked up a few more keepers, but bites were light and hook sets were tough. I broke out the blade bait while we continued trolling and that yielded another 18 incher and another keeper in the last half hour. Most of our bites came out of 35 to 45 feet of water on the steep break at Blue Creek. The fish showed no clear color preference.
