Greg: Roosevelt - 8/14

I was able to get an afternoon and evening on Roosevelt before the heat wave arrived. It was a nice day in the mid 80s, light winds, and lots of sunshine. Fishing was decent for August. I caught 17 walleyes ranging from 10 inches to 23 inches. I released a couple of the bigger walleyes and the dinks ending up with 9 keepers. Water temp was in the lower to mid 70s. The lake level was still high at 1289 feet.

More info for club members: The bite was pretty typical of summer with walleyes scattered. I caught several 16 to 22 inch walleyes fishing in and around weed beds near Buoy 7 in depths from 20 to 40 feet. I tried working weeds and edges with jigs and blade baits, but I could only get them to bite on crawlers and bouncers. I got another couple of trolling bouncers in the channel above Buoy 7 in 35 to 40 feet including a 23 incher (released). I got a couple keepers in the Narrows casting into shallow spots near weeds. I finished the day at the Cemetery which was loaded with dink walleyes which were all throw backs.

A 23 incher (released).
