Club Fish Day: Roosevelt - 8/28

Fishing was steady through the day for keeper sized walleyes along with quite a few throw backs. Boats met at Porcupine Bay in the morning and worked several places on the Arm. With the water level dropping about 8 feet since mid August, most walleyes were caught in deeper water. Fish that were relating to weed beds earlier in the month seemed to be on rocky structure like river channels, points, and humps. Concentrations of fish were hard to find so trolling night crawlers was the most effective way to cover water and maintain depth on steep edges.

More info for club members: There were 4 club boats at the ramp around 9 AM. (Larry Q/Ken S, Mark and Linda M, new member Don J, and Greg K) Around noon, John and Shirley joined the mix. Good fishing was found in the vicinity of Buoy 7 and Marker 5. Trolling spinners and Smile Blades of various colors were effective. Metallic finishes like chrome and gold were consistent. Orange worked best in rocky areas where walleyes eat crawdads. The lake level was 1281 ft. Water temperature was 73. Water clarity very good.
