I arrived at Porcupine Bay around 11 AM. It was a beautiful 70 degree day with bright sunshine and light wind. I spent the first couple of hours looking for active walleyes and didn’t find a thing. I saw a couple of other boats catch a fish or two, but I didn’t get my first bite until almost 3 PM. I finally dialed in a slow and steady pattern that continued into the evening. I put 16 walleyes in the boat. Several were small throw-backs, but I did end up with 10 keepers which were all males. Water temp 48 degrees. Water clarity 5 to 8 feet.

More info for club members: I worked a blade bait for the first hour or two around Blue Creek, Porcupine Bay, and in the Narrows without any luck. I motored up to Marker 5 where I found Doug N and Mark M. They had a couple of walleyes in the live well. I trolled Smile Blades and bouncers in that area for an hour or more without a bite. Doug and Mark left, so I assume their luck ran out. About 3 PM, I left Marker 5 on my way to Buoy 1. On my way I decided to stop and fish the channel between The Steps and Weeping Wall. I had never fished this area, but thought it was worth a try since the sun was bright and the channel was 10 to 15 feet deeper than the Marker 5 area. Within 5 minutes, I caught my first walleye. I spent the next 3 hours trolling a 1-2 mile stretch just above a spot crews are rebuilding the shoreline. Metallic Smile Blades (silver or gold) caught fish in 40-45 feet (deepest part of channel). I kept fish in the 14 to 17 inch range and tossed the smaller one back.
