Greg: Fall Camp Out - Ft Spokane
I had a great time Thursday and Friday at the Camp Out. I got there at 1030 AM to check in at camp. I was the only one there so I fished from 11 AM to 4 PM. The fishing was surprisingly good around Porcupine Bay. I finished with a limit of walleyes ranging from 15 to 18 inches. With the water level at 1273ft (down 14ft from summer pool), I concentrated on structure along the deep channel edge. With the weed beds high and dry, many fish have gone deep. I pulled 3 ounce bouncers in 40 to 65 feet. Chartreuse smile blades with a half a crawler were effective. Other colors caught a few fish, but chartreuse was the best producer. Even with a half crawler, short bites were common, and I missed nearly half of the bites.
On Friday, I went out with Doug S on his boat. It was a cloudy and very smoky day before the rain came in the late afternoon. We ended up keeping 23 walleyes fishing from 930 AM to 430 PM. The ledge at Blue Creek was crazy good Friday. Doug was so happy! It was his first fishing trip in 2 years and loved every minute of it.
I had to work over the weekend so I didn't fish Saturday, but rumor has it Mike O caught a 32 inch walleye to win the contest.
