Greg and Allan: Roosevelt - 12/2

Allan and I were treated to a gorgeous early December day at Kettle Falls. By mid morning, the wind was calm and temperatures climbed into the mid to upper 50s. We got on the water around 930 AM and met some friends who fish Kettle regularly. By the time we met them, they had 10 keepers in an hour of fishing. The hot morning bite slowed, and they had 17 by noon. Allan and I couldn’t get a fish to bite, and we finally left to try new areas around 1 PM. We ended up catching 8 walleyes ranging from 19 to 24 inches with a hot bite between 130 and 230 PM.

For club members: We launched out of the Kettle Falls Marina and met John Race and his buddy in Singer Bay. John’s buddy put on clinic with a copper blade bait** steadily catching walleye on the humps in Singer Bay. Neither John, Allan, or I caught anything for 3 hours while John’s buddy put fish after fish in the boat. Feeling quite discouraged, Allan and I left for a spot near Marcus Island. It only took one or two casts before Allan and I doubled up with a pair of 21 inch walleyes. This area had a bit more current so we used heavier blades (3/4 ounce) to get the bait down into the strike zone. Allan used a bright Firetiger pattern while I threw a copper blade.
