Jack W: Snake River - 10/6/2022

Location: Texas Rapids

Date: Oct 6th

Conditions: bluebird day, wind calm to a light breeze.

The current was slow, and the water was green with algae.

Situation:

Jack took two steelhead fishermen with him who had little experience fishing for walleye.

We started the day fishing the north bank 1/4 to 1/2 mi. below the hatchery.

We trolled bottom bouncers and chartreus worm harnesses in depths ranging from 20 to 50 ft.

We trolled both downstream and upstream with the same rigs.

Results: we hooked several 'perch' size walleye that we tossed back. We did catch one keeper 16".

Then we hooked the BIG ONE- a 6# 26" catfish. That one we kept.

After fishing there we moved upstream to the mouth of the Palouse R. and hooked 3 keeper perch and one crappie.

From there we moved up to the mouth of the Tucannon, where we caught 3 more keeper parch and our 2nd catfish.

From there we moved up to Texas Rapids and fished the north bank trolling upriver with the same rigs we started with in the morning and hooked a number to perch sized walleye.

We did hook two nice keeper smallies and one nice eater sized walleye. We then moved toward the dam and fished from the north bank to mid-channel from 16ft to over 50ft. By now it was 2:30-3p.m. and fishing had slowed down. About the time we were going to quick we hit a pod of walleye in deeper water and hook two keepers, and lost one. We headed back up stream to 'the pod' and hooked another smallie and another keeper walleye.

Before giving up for the day we tossed back more perch sized walleye and a couple perch sized smallmouth.

All in all, it was absolutely best day I've ever had at Texas Rapids: Got to fish all day with no wind, and I was able to put my guests on fish all day long. Together, the three of us took home over 10lbs. of cleaned, deboned fillets.
