Greg and Gary: Roosevelt - 10/12/2023

For quite some time, I’ve been hoping to get Gary on the water with me. We finally got a day when we could both head to Roosevelt. It had been nearly a month since I had been to Roosevelt, so I was interested to see if I could find fish in some of the same spots. When we arrived the lake was at full pool…up about 5 or 6 feet. The water temperature was 62 degrees…about 5 degrees cooler than my last trip to Roosevelt. When we pulled up to my first spot, I got two 17 inch walleyes in the first 20 minutes and marked several more on the Humminbird. The rest of the day was very slow. I got two more walleyes (22 inches and 15 inches) and Gary caught a 19 inch smallmouth.

More info for club members: I marked a lot of fish at the upper end of Outhouse Flats in 35 to 55 feet of water, and that is where I caught two nice keepers right off the bat. We spent another hour an a half trolling that area with 3 ounce bouncers and various colors of Smile Blades with no luck. We then moved to Naybory. I had a take down that I missed while grabbing a sandwich, and that was the only bite we had there. We move again. I got a 22 incher across the river from Nayborly and Gary got his big smallmouth soon after. Our final walleye was caught in the middle of Outhouse late in the afternoon.

We spent the entire day trolling bouncers and crawlers which was a mistake. A week later, Brian went to Roosevelt and was skunked trolling. After a few hours, he and his son switched to jigging raps and caught 15 walleyes. I should have changed presentations when I was marking fish and not getting bites.
