Greg: Fall Camp Out - 9/26-28
I fished for parts of 3 days north of Kettle Falls on the weekend of the club’s Fall Camp Out. I arrived mid afternoon on Thursday as the wind was blowing 15 to 20 mph out of the south. The lake was 1284 feet, so I was able to launch at the small dock at Marcus to avoid the big waves on the river near the highway bridge.
Thursday, I fished from 3 pm to 7 pm in the Marcus area and got 3 keepers and several throw backs. I found a small spot along the channel edge below Marcus Island in 55 feet and I got the walleyes on chartreuse spinners behind 3 ounce bouncers.
Friday and Saturday: Friday morning, I tried various spots around Singer Bay and Marcus with limited success. I met up with Ken L and John O at 1030 am. They got a few around Evans before they moved into the shelter of Singer Bay. The wind was making boat control a challenge. In the afternoon, I made my way up to Evans and discovered that I could control the boat with help from a drift sock. I returned to the Evans area Saturday morning and fished the channel edge just upriver of the campground. I got 10 keepers on Friday and 9 keepers on Saturday morning. The majority of the bites occurred in 50 to 60 feet along the channel edge pulling 3 ounce bouncers and Smile Blades. Walleyes at Evans were a consistent 16 to 17 inches with no throw backs.
