Walleye Club member Ed joined me for the day. We launched out of Fort Spokane and fished the main lake. The fishing was decent for a bright sunny day in September. We caught about 15 walleyes ranging from 10 inches to 19 inches. Only about 8 were larger than 14 inches which was disappointing. The water tempeature was 68 degrees and the lake level was 1284 feet (up 8 feet since the beginning of the month).

More info for club members: We started the day on Outhouse Flats a few miles abve the confluence of the Spokane River and the Columbia. The Humminbird didn’t mark any fish until 45 to 50 feet near the break into the main channel, so we concentrated our efforts there. After catching 6 walleyes, we moved to the Nayborly area. I trolled in 35 feet initially, but didn’t catch anything until moving out to 50 to 55 feet where we got another 4 or 5 better sized fish. Before returning to the launch, we hit Outhouse Flats again and got another 4 or 5 walleyes before quitting around 2 pm.

We used 3 ounce bouncers and spinner rigs. Ed had success with a small silver Colorado blade with charteuse beads. I used a variety of green, silver, and gold Smile Blade presentations throughout the day and didn’t notice that the fish had a color preference. Biggest fish was 19 inches and came on a copper blade bait. I dropped the blade down to it after marking it on a deep hump.
