Lyle P, Jim K and his Dad: Potholes - 4/25

I fished with my dad from Minnesota and Lyle P on Potholes.  We got on the water at 8:45AM and fished until 4:30PM.  We ended up catching two walleyes on bottom bouncers and one smallmouth on a small swim bait.  Overall fishing was very slow.  After a long stable weather system, I bet the cold front and bluebird skies arrived overnight had a bit to do with our lack of success.

More for the club:

We immediately started out fishing up Crab Creek up tight against the willows along steep drops where base of dunes were in about 17’ of water.  We were using a variety of bottom bouncing rigs in various colors.  After an hour we switched to throwing jigs over submerged vegetation and along drops in same area.  We made a move to Medicare beach and graphed a decent amount of fish.  Lyle picked up one 15” fat walleye on a chartreuse smile blade bait with slow death in pretty quick order.  After several more drifts trying various colors, and even small cranks we failed to entice more bites despite having an active graph on my HDS.

We made a move to further up Crab Creek to where maximum depth was about 10'.  We trolled up the channel along the submerged vegetation, keeping our bottom bouncers working through the submerged weeds.  I was on the bow casting jigs over the vegetation and managed to pick up a 15” smallmouth.

We then returned to the submerged structure lower down in Crab Creek and worked many humps and edges.  Again, bottom bouncers off the back as I threw jigs up front.  My dad managed to catch a single 15” walleye.   That was it for our fishing.. fat fish resulted in at least a meal of fish for the pan.
