Club Fish Day: Potholes - 4/30

Fishing was generally tough at Potholes for our 2nd Club Fish Day of the spring. Most of us caught a handful of walleye, but the bite was tough for most of us. The wind was out of the north at 10 to 15 mph when we launched at Potholes State Park making for a rough ride on the main lake. Most of us took shelter in Lind Coulee during the morning. The wind laid down in the afternoon making for pleasant conditions with temps in the 70s. The water temperature was 60-62 degrees and the water clarity was about 4 feet.

More info for club members: Steve/Becki F and Paul L fished on Friday before the rest of the group arrived. Friday was cloudy with favorable wind. Steve/Becki got 12 fish along a point in Lind Coulee Friday and Paul L got 14 in Crab Creek and Lind Coulee. Breezy winds on Saturday along with bright sunshine made fishing tough. A few fish were caught in the morning in Lind Coulee, and they were generally deep 30 to 40 feet. A couple of us ran into Crab Creek in the afternoon and found a few fish in the 17 to 22 inch range. Crab Creek fish were in 8 to 15 feet of water and related to weed edges or submerged brush. Pulling bottom bouncers and spinners was the technique used by most boats.

Club boats: There were 7 or 8 boats from the club. Ken/Sharon L, Paul L, Stan J/his friend Schmitty, Donn/Shari E, Steve/Becki F, Greg K/Brian H/Larry B, and Rose/Greg B.
