Greg: Roosevelt - 7/3

I joined Randy for the day on Roosevelt. We launched around 9 AM and fished until about 5 PM. We ended up with 14 keepers. Similar to my recent trips, the majority of the fish were in the 15 to 17 inch range. We did get a couple between 18 and 19 inches. The water temperature is in the upper 60s and the lake is at full pool.

More info for club members: We ran up to the narrow channel above Buoy 7 to begin the day. Our first drift yielded 6 keepers…all on the color orange. The bite was aggressive, and I thought we were going to have a stellar day. Then morning clouds gave way to sun, and the bite slowed considerably. Our next drift produced only one walleye so we continued our troll all the way to Buoy 5. As we passed Buoy 7, we picked up two 18 inch walleyes. We continued to work the flat and channel edge near Buoy 7 without any action. From there we tried around Buoy 1 (nothing) and in the Narrows (also nothing). We ended the day at Blue Creek and put another 3 walleyes in the boat.

All of our walleyes were caught trolling bouncers and spinners/smile blades. Most fish were caught in 28 to 35 feet. There was a clear preference for orange in the morning, but the fish showed no color preference in the afternoon as the bite got tough. Our attempts to fish weedbeds with crankbaits were unsuccessful.
