Greg and Doug S: Roosevelt - 6/13/2024
Fishing on the Arm is tough now. Spots that are frequently productive in early June are not this year. Allan struggled in the upper Arm earlier this week. Same story with club member Brian. I invited Doug S to join me for the evening on Thursday. We launched at Porcupine Bay at 330 pm. Our first couple of spots yielded nothing. We ended up fishing our third spot for the remainder of the evening until we stopped fishing at 9 pm. Doug and I got 12 walleyes and a trout. Several of the walleyes were too small to keep, so we ended up cleaning 8 walleyes between 14 and 19 inches.
More info for club members: Our first stops were across from the launch at Porcupine Bay and Blue Creek. Both were unproductive. As we motored up to Loughbon Bay, we marked lots of fish between 40 and 55 feet. Many of the arches were suspended 5 to 10 feet off the bottom, but a few were within a foot bottom (frequent walleye behavior). We got 4 keeper walleyes in our first 2 trolling passes. We continued to work 40 feet with 2.5 and 3 ounce bouncers with smile blades. The walleyes didn’t seem to have a color preference, and we slowly added a fish or two to the livewell until about 8 pm when the bite stopped.
