Greg: Roosevelt - 6/7

I hit the Spokane Arm on Friday. I arrived around 11 am and there was a breezy north wind producing white caps at the Porcupine ramp. It had been a month since I had fished the Arm, so it took a couple of hours to find walleyes. Prior to 2 pm, I only had one or two bites, but I enjoyed a very good mid to late afternoon bite. I ended up catching 16 walleyes and released quite a few. Fish ranged from 12 inches to 20 inches. It is nice to see a range in year classes with a lot of good eater sized walleyes between 15 and 17 inches. The water temperature was 63 degrees.

More info for club members: I enjoyed the jig bite at Northport so much I was hoping to catch some more walleyes in the Arm casting jigs. I tried some spots near Porcupine Bay in the muddy water churned up by the wind and waves. I also tried casting jigs and blades around the Indian Cemetery three miles downstream of Porcupine Bay. My next move was 2 miles upstream of Porcupine at Loughbon Bay. As I slowly motored up to the humps in the bay, my Humminbird showed lots of arches in 30 to 40 feet. After several casts onto the shallow humps with no action, I got out my bottom bouncers and trolled 30 to 40 feet with Smile blades and crawlers and immediately started catching walleyes. I did catch one walleye in 40 feet on a jig, but it took 45 minutes to get one nibble. The bite was especially good after 5 pm. I had plenty of fish in the live well, so I stopped fishing around 6 pm. A green sparkle Smile blade with gold and white beads was by far the best producer.
