Greg, Allan, Kendall - 5/31-6/1: Roosevelt

Allan and Kendall spent 10 to 12 days at Northport fishing the upper end of Lake Roosevelt. They averaged 7 to 10 walleyes per day in the 16 to 21 inch range. I joined them for their last 2 days of fishing. Some years, the walleye bite is lights out in this area around Memorial Day, but not this year. The fishing was fun, but it was work to get bites. With the high water levels this spring, the walleyes blasted through places like China Bend and the Little Dalles which are usually post-spawn stops on their way up river. The water temperature was 54 degrees. Males were still milting. Females had dropped their eggs.

More info for club members: Allan camped at the Northport boat launch. We fished from the Canadian border to the Little Dalles. We casted 5/8 oz jigs and 5/8 oz blade baits into current seams and back edies in depths of 15 to 25 feet. Jigs were more productive than blades by a 3 to 1 ratio on the days I fished. We got 10 walleyes and a small sturgeon on Friday (sunny) and 16 keepers on Saturday (cloudy).
