Greg: Roosevelt - Apr 18, 2025

It was my first fishing trip in my boat of the spring. It was a quick trip to Roosevelt to test my new batteries and make sure the boat was running okay. I launched at Porcupine Bay at 1030 AM and had my first 2 fish in the livewell by 1045. By 230 PM I had a limit of walleyes in the 15 to 17 inch range. I didn’t even move from the spot where I started. A surprisingly good first trip of the season.

More info for club members: I launched out of Porcupine Bay and motored upsteam about a mile up to Loughbon Bay. I didn’t think that I would stay long at my first spot, but wanted to test the MinnKota for a while before committing to heading up the Arm. I didn’t mark much in 20 to 40 feet as I motored onto the Flat in the bay. Before I had my 2nd rod baited and in the rod holder, my first rod was doubled over. Before I had that fish out of the net, the second rod was also doubled over. Two fish in the livewell in less than 5 minutes! In about 3.5 hours my limit was filled fishing a spot that was less than a hundred yards long. Ten of the keepers came on chartruese or lime green smile blades and a crawler behind a 2 ounce bouncer. The other six keepers came on a 5/8 ounce green blade bait. In the late morning, walleyes were in 25 to 30 feet. By early afternoon, they had slid into 30 to 35 feet. Walleyes were tight to the bottom. I didn’t see much on the Humminbird while I was getting consistent bites.
