Greg and Travis: Roosevelt - 7/11/2025
A friend from church (Travis D) joined me for a day at the lake. Travis grew up fishing for walleyes in South Dakota on Lake Francis Case which is the same pool on the Missouri River where I learned to walleye fish when I was a kid. Travis claimed that he hadn’t caught a walleye in 30 years. It didn’t take him long to make up for lost time. I showed him how to rig the bottom bouncer set up, and before I had mine in the water, he had his first walleye in the boat. We ended up with 17 walleyes in the live well for him to take home to his family. The lake was as high as it was all summer on the day Travis and I were on the lake 1289 feet with a good deal of floating debris and chalky water. The weed edge was 25 feet.
More info for club members: We launched out of Ft Spokane before 8 am and headed north. We picked up 7 walleyes on the north end of Outhouse Flats trolling just outside the weeds with bottom bouncers. Our next stop was Nayborly which was a bust. We picked up 5 more walleyes and several small bass near the mouth of Willmont Creek including a 19 inch walleye trolling a Flicker Minnow over the top of the weeds. Our last stop was across from Split Rock where we got a couple 16 inchers. The only walleye we got on a crankbait was the 19 incher…the rest came on crawlers on double hook crawler harnesses. We released many fish under 12 inches…lots of small fish in Roosevelt this year.
